Learning to belay is an important part of the climbing experience at the Texas State Climbing Center or outside at any natural cliff face. These clinics teach participants about equipment, knots, climbing skills, belay technique, catching falls, and lowering climbers; all with plenty of practice. Participants who have completed a workshop must then complete a Belay Skills Assessment to belay independently at the climbing wall.

This hands-on skills training prepares you to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults, youth, and infants. It also teaches the skills and knowledge needed to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest through the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Additionally the First Aid portion will help participants identify and eliminate potentially hazardous conditions in their environment, recognize emergencies and make appropriate decisions for first aid care. If you have a medical condition or disability that might prevent you from taking part in the practice sessions, or if you have any questions at all about your ability to participate fully in the course, you should discuss it with your health care provider before you start the course.
